Paris is a city full of iconic landmarks, but there’s so much more to discover beyond the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame. As a commercial photographer living and working in Paris, I’ve had the chance to explore countless corners of the city, and today I want to share with you five of my favorite hidden gems in the Montmartre district—a place where art, history, and Parisian charm blend perfectly.
📍 At the end of this article, you’ll find a downloadable map with all the locations and a suggested walking route.
📸1. Lamarck-Caulaincourt Metro Station
Welcome to one of the most photogenic metro stations in Paris. Known for its cinematic architecture, this was also a filming location for the beloved movie Amélie. Right across the street, you’ll find Café Dose, a modern spot for one of the best cappuccinos in the area. Also nearby is Kodak Express, where I develop most of my film work—including photos taken at this exact station!
🍷2. Le Cépage Montmartrois – My Favorite Restaurant
This isn’t just a recommendation—this is a daily ritual. I visit Le Cépage Montmartrois every single day. The food? Exceptional. The atmosphere? Warm and welcoming. The people? Fantastic—literally. I’m known as “Fantastic” there, because that’s my go-to reply every time they ask how I’m doing.
It’s beautiful at night and perfect for a cozy dinner. Bonus: right across the street is a friendly boulangerie where you can grab a croissant or sandwich without needing to speak fluent French (trust me, I’ve tried!).
🌿 3. Allée des Brouillards & Dalida’s Monument
Take a walk through Allée des Brouillards, a quiet, picturesque shortcut leading to the Dalida Monument—a tribute to the legendary singer. Legend says touching her bust with both hands brings good luck. You might recognize the area from Emily in Paris, as a scene was filmed right here. From this point, you can walk up to Sacré-Cœur, or if you’re a brand, this is where I shot campaigns for KAEINTHE Bags from Switzerland. Stunning backdrop, unbeatable vibes.
🍽️ 4. Moulin de la Galette – Dinner with a View (and History)
This historic restaurant is more than just a place to eat. It features a glass ceiling with views of the windmill, and it famously appears in Renoir’s painting Bal du Moulin de la Galette. That artwork now hangs in the Musée d’Orsay, but you can dine inside the very place it was inspired by. My top dish? Steak with Sauce Béarnaise, frites, and mayo – a solid 10/10.
🎶 5. Place Émile Goudeau – Relax, Enjoy, and Feel Paris
This cozy square is perfect to unwind. Surrounded by cafés and charming streets, it’s where you’ll find locals enjoying wine, musicians performing live on Sundays, and even Picasso’s first studio just a short walk away. Just down the slope is Bar Chez Camille, an old-school American-style bar with vintage décor and a vibrant Sunday crowd.
